Building a workplace where mental health matters

Mental Health Committed Employer

Westbury FM continues its commitment to workplace mental health as a Bronze Member of the Mental Health Charter for a second year.

At Westbury FM, looking after our people goes beyond physical health and safety. We believe creating a good place to work also means creating an environment where people feel able to talk about their mental health, ask for support and look out for one another.

That’s why we’re proud to continue our membership of the Mental Health Charter, maintaining our status as a Bronze Member and Mental Health Committed Employer for a second year.

The Mental Health Charter is a not-for-profit organisation working to change the way people think and act around mental health challenges, particularly by tackling stigma and encouraging more open conversations. It supports workplaces through resources, action planning, training and networking designed to help turn a commitment to mental health into meaningful action.

More than a badge

As part of our Bronze membership, Westbury has pledged to recognise that mental health challenges can affect people in the workplace; talk openly, respectfully and positively about mental health; encourage conversations and recognise that everyone has mental health just as they have physical health; and actively support and inform employees affected by mental health challenges.

For us, those principles matter. Facilities management can be a demanding industry. Our people work across different environments, often balancing deadlines, client expectations, reactive situations and the everyday pressures that come with working life. Creating a culture in which people feel comfortable checking in with colleagues or saying when they need support is therefore an important part of how we want Westbury to operate.

Turning awareness into action

The Mental Health Charter also provides access to workplace mental health training covering areas including Mental Health Awareness, Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health Champions, Suicide First Aid and Mental Health Skills for Managers. Its manager training, for example, focuses on recognising when an employee may be experiencing mental health issues, having open conversations and appropriately signposting people towards available support.

This emphasis on practical knowledge is important. Supporting mental health isn’t about expecting managers or colleagues to have all the answers. It is about building awareness, recognising when somebody may need help, being willing to start a conversation and knowing where appropriate support can be found.

Continuing the conversation

Our second year as a Bronze Member represents another step in Westbury FM’s wider commitment to our people and their wellbeing.

Mental health shouldn’t only become a conversation when somebody is struggling. By talking about it openly, challenging stigma and making wellbeing part of everyday working life, we can help create a workplace where people feel supported and valued.

We’re proud to continue supporting the work of the Mental Health Charter and to be recognised as a Mental Health Committed Employer.
